Strategic Writing for Social Media

Somehow, I think I managed to get a week ahead in my readings, but we're just going to go with it. This week we're looking at strategic writing for social media. In this chapter there's quite a bit I didn't know beforehand. I like that it gives you six Cs of effective writing which are as follows: content, community, culture, conversation, creativity and connection. I also really enjoy the tables given in this chapter because it's helpful to see what is most effective to post to each social media platform. The author also talks about different styles of voices to write in and how it is important to stay true to yourself when you're writing for your social media platforms. I think often times, people feel like they have to write a specific way for social media and often times don't seem true to themselves. It's also important to keep in mind your audience when choosing this voice because you want one that will also be effective with them. At the end of the chapter they breakdown the balance between your personal and brand voices, saying that 25% should focus on your story/personal journey, 25% should focus on sharing content that is related to your community and industry, 25% should focus on engagement and 25% should focus on producing value and paying it forward. It's important to have that balance in your social media because while you might have a brand, it's also important to show the personality that is behind that brand.
