Overview of Social Media for Strategic Communication

We have officially made it to the end of "Social Media for Strategic Communication" by Karen Freberg, and boy has it been a journey. It feels like just yesterday I was reading Chapter 1 of this book. This book is textbook style in writing and how it's set up. It also was not bad due to all the examples and tables included throughout the chapters. This book covers a wide range of topics within social media and therefore is a good fit for anyone wanting to broaden their social media knowledge. While a lot of social media is common sense, there's still more to the strategic side that many people tend to forget. The first few chapters of this book cover the basics of social media, and probably the most well-known topics, like personal brand and creating/curating content. The further into the book the reader goes, the deeper in technicalities it gets. By the end of reading this book you could almost be an expert! almost. I will say while I typically hate text-bookish style of books, this one surprised me. While I know a lot about social media there was a lot of new information I learned, and some that I got refreshed on. One of the best features of this book is by far the spotlights at the beginning of each chapter. It really helps shine a light on different scenarios throughout the book and helps give real life examples, which most textbooks fail to do. Overall, I would say this book is a great read for those who are new to the social media world or just as a reference material for those who are heavily involved with social media in their everyday lives.
