Twitter is Changing their Advertisement Policy

Recently Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, announced via tweet that Twitter will no longer be allowing political advertisements. This comes as a surprise to many Twitter users but is being implemented so that users will not be swayed by misinformation spread on the platform. Dorsey said that all platforms should investigate redesigning their advertisement policies in order to keep users from voting based on misinformation and having a huge impact on others' lives for the next four years. Personally, I think this is interesting because I do believe that many users do get misinformed about candidates which can lead to people being in offices that should not be in office. The 2016 elections clearly demonstrated the effect that these targeted ads had on voters in swaying them to a certain side. The fact is that politics is a corrupted game to begin with and the internet is a weapon within that game. So much misinformation is spread online, you can never really trust it. I understand where Dorsey is coming from with the ban. It's crazy that the internet has so much power over people that it can literally influence who they choose to run this country.

If you want to find out more on this and read about what Mark Zuckerburg had to say about the ban, you can find the article here.

  1. I also think that this is interesting that a social media platform like twitter is changing their policy about this. I believe that this change is important considering today's society is easily influenced by misinformation.
